Foscam fi8910w remote viewing setup

Choose an external port number. When outside your home network, your DDNS address will direct outside web traffic to your router, but we need to get the outside traffic to your specific camera on the network. We do this with a port number. Your DDNS address is similar to a street address. Your remote port number will act similar to a specific numbered address on that street. Port numbers can range between 1 through , however many are reserved and some are used by other programs. So choose a remote port number for your camera between and For the remainder of this instruction, we are going to choose It really does not matter though.

Configure port forwarding on your router. On the SD 89xx series cameras the default http port number is This is fairly simple in our example. Ignore the port number and IP that they use on that page and setup the one that you are configuring. The following is an example of the port forwarding settings of a router with our example case configured:.

Your router may require that the internal port be the same as the external port. Test the remote address in a web browser.

If it is working, great. If not, verify that your DDNS has your current IP as shown above and double check your router port forwarding settings. Add the remote address and port to Foscam Pro and test it. You should now be able to view the camera remotely. You can fill the gap between turning it on and accessing it over the internet by learning to read. My technical knowledge is fairly good regarding routers, IP addresses, etc. I was pretty impressed with how much technology I got for the price.

I'm able to access the camera anywhere over the internet, and that includes my Windows laptop, as well as my Android phone and my Kindle Fire using a free app. There is only one thing that I would like to see My camera is used to monitor an elderly relative, and sometimes she can be seen partially undressed.

Makes me uncomfortable not having https for sending account and password over the internet. Would have given 5 stars if it had https. This will be my third camera, Foscam's customer service and technical support is fantastic. All of their reps are extremely helpful. Got 3 cameras. The instructions are useless.

Don't relate to the steps that need to be taken. You need to download ipad software at a cost. What's the bloody point then. Can't even access the pictures from my office PC because external ip port is blocked. So I've got several Foscam units and I can't use them :. Maybe if there was a hosting website that might have done the trick. But the camera's are useless as I can't view from my workplace. Asked foscam support if there is a way around and they didn't know. I don't want to have to take in a spare personal laptop or ipad everywhere I go.

Doesn't work on blackberry as I get blank screen. So problems are: i Can't view pages from work using assigned ip address and port as most companies will block ports. Big drawback! Thanks a lot Foscam. Surely you knew this bug when you sold me the units. Additional ipad software costs more may do the trick but I shouldn't need to purchase more software just to get it working.

Very obvious drawbacks Foscam should have addressed. I purchased a twin pack from Foscam directly, and got free customer service. There was about a 20 minute phone wait, but after about 30 additional minutes both of my cameras were set up!

Looking over the forums, I was able to set up the email alarm after signing up for a gmx email account that seemed to be the easiest. We have never had security issues, but now I can remotely monitor my property when we are not at home. I would love one of these for monitoring the back yard. But based on that experience this is by far the best value for the cost.

Initially I had some challenges with configuring for wireless use in a corporate environment The biggest challenge was just finding it unable to use the camera finder in Windows 7 for some reason , but was able to ping-sweep with Angry IP Scanner to find IP's without Hostnames and open port Opened up in browser and got to work.

Found the steps that worked for me was to configure the wireless settings ONLY. Then configure the Ethernet static IP address settings. Reboot and unplug Ethernet cable. Watch the green Ethernet LED go from slow intermittent blinking quick blinking as an indicator that it's connected to the wireless LAN. Then open a browser and connect to the new IP address As far as quality, there is some distortion or curvature on the very edges of the visual field of view, but it's not noticeable in most cases - only if you have a straight object like pole, or house, or something in that exact spot Color reproduction is much improved from the FIW model, and in my opinion the clarity is also improved slightly.

The biggest improvement is definitely with the audio - both the microphone and the speaker. The work great with the FIW now. Granted the speaker is not very loud, but it's fine for small and relatively quiet areas like around the house.

In an industrial environment where I'm using it the speaker is pretty much not usable. But the microphone is just fine. No issues whatsoever with the wireless capability either - seems to work just is well in areas where I have low signal quality as viewed from my laptop as it does right next to the wireless access point.

Pan and tilt is also great - much more range than what I've had with D-Link and Toshiba models - movement is fairly quick too. Can't recommend this device highly enough. Again, for the cost and features it's a great value. Linux users need to know that the included CD is only for obtaining the cam IP address so it doesn't matter that it's only for Mac and MS. Just connect it to your router with a cable and get the IP address from your router dhcp client list. Point your browser to that IP and do the cam setup.

Set a fixed IP and then go wireless. No drivers necessary. Really plug and play. Highly recommended. I have called twice a day over the last week trying to reach somebody in the Sales dept. The phone keeps ringing, and does not go to a voicemail. What kind of company is this? I have filled out the form on the Contact Us page, and no one responds to any of my questions.

Do you guys not want to make a sale? This makes me wonder if this product is a scam. Tried multiple times with ridiculous hold times then disconnects automatically. I had a question on firmware download and e-mailed Foscam support and recieved a full concise explanation from Faizan in no time. Around 16 min. I just completed the install of my new Foscam Einstein, I'm not. But, with the help of Anzen my service tech, I was operational in no time. Anzen was very nice and knew exactly how to help.

Now with my super secret spy camera, I'm going to finally know which one of my dogs is responsible for nasty behavior while I'm away. Incredible help from support team! Great camera for the price, easy to use and set up. I needed a little help with my set up and their CS 'Ricky' was very helpful and knowledgeable. Foscam camera FW is awesome - Customer service is top notch. Both Steve, Mono and Jees were very professional and helpful.

I would certainly recommend this camera and company. Had problems at first but contacted customer service and had it up and running in no time! Calvin Harris was my rep and helped out great! Camera works great now! I have to admit I love this camera. I also have to admit it drives me crazy at times as well.

Basic set up was very easy. Setting up to remote view took an hour on the phone with customer service, Anzen was very patient and extremely helpful. I love being able to Monitor my dogs in their room whenever and wherever I am. BUT the camera resets itself A LOT, now I don't know if it's my wireless setup or not but it's a real pain to keep working when I have to fiddle with the IP string all the time and even sometimes unplug the camera and replug it back in to get it working again but as I said it might be my wireless signal, which I am in the process of oomphing up and hopefully that will solve the resetting issue.

The camera image is very clear and I like being able to remotely move the camera angle and even have some sound. All in all I would buy the camera again I just wish the system were more stable and didn't take constant fiddling to keep it working. The remote service was excellent, all the cameras are working fine. Calvin Harris was very good and took all the time I needed to get these cameras working. The cameras look good ,they are small enough to be out of the way, they are easy to control.

Customer service was very helpful. The guy new exactly what to do to fix my problem. I was impressed. The quality of the video is pretty impressive also. It works! Steve was terrific. Saved me hours. Wish I had called earlier. Directions in the box aren't clear so they are wise to have strong customer support. Camera works like a charm. I was able to get camera set up on my wired network but struggled with wireless. One call to Foscam tech support and 5 minutes later up and running.

I like the camera alot so far! I received my foscam from amazon approximately 5 days ago and was eager to set it up.

I do not have the computer technical ability that I once had so I needed to get in touch with their technical support. I called a few times and always was transferred to sales because tech support was busy.

The guys at sales took my information and forwarded it to the tech department. When tech called me I was away from my home and figured great now I will have to work again to get back to tech support later, but no, the gentleman named Ricky set a time up with me that was convenient for me and got back with me at that time to set up the camera for email and remote viewing.

He was courteous and professional and I could not have asked for a better customer service experience, thanks Foscam. This camera is a high quality device and provides excellent video and sound control. With the help of the customer service I was able to get multicameras working via wireless. With their help I was able to fix the issue and i am very satisfied.

This is an outstanding camera with excellent integration mounts for home use as a security device. Great product, super company, and best support group I have ever ran across.

If your looking for a baby monitor or surveillance camera look no more this is the one. Still some trouble linking on iPad with live cams pro, but tech will come through.

I want to thank Mr. Smith for helping me connect my Foscam Wireless System. He did a great job. I would recommend this system to everyone. I am very happy and this gives me a great sense of security. Hats off to all the people at Foscam for their support online and on the phone. Not to mention the system was delivered very quickly and the installation was a breeze.

Its great to be able to view from your computer, IPhone or Ipad. Great customer service. Couldnt get the camera set up by myself so I called in. I worked with Smith and he was very patient with us and got the camera set up on our iMac. The 1st camera we got was defective however they sent a new one that worked great. Highly recommended even if your not an IT person.

This a great alternative to the standard options for a baby monitor. Its cheaper but works better than the ones you buy from Babies r us. And you can even use it with your iPhone or Android anywhere!

Calvin Harris is very helpful in resolving our tech support issues. We are very pleased with our camera and it's remote viewing capabilities. Foscam's customer service and technical support is fantastic.

Calvin Harris helped me with my port forwarding issues. Another one of their reps even called my wireless provider's support line for me to help me configure my router settings. Great product, great support team. Calvin Harris was incredibly helpful. He helped resolve all my issues. My cameras now work fantastically and this is now a phenomenal product thanks to Calvin. Not only is the camera great, the suppoet is fantastic!

Jees was very helpful and courteous. I thank him for his patience in helping me get set up. I plan on purchasing additional cameras direct from Foscam. Calvin Harris was a great help and was very patient with me. He was very professional and he is very good. I found out about the camera from Kim Komando. The support tech Calvin was very helpful with my problem and fixed it in an efficient manner. Tech helped greatly with the support with my connection with my ip camera from apexis.

Calvin Harris Very helpful. The service was painless and Calvin was very good. There are two important "lessons learned" that could be construed as "implied tasks. If so, contact your local internet provider for either a static IP or a work-around. Know that you won't see your camera from the "outside," from within your own LAN. Many thanks to Mr. His advice saved me hours of additional work vis a vis my network. Yes, I will order another It took a little while for the customer service rep to pick up the call, however, once Jees was connected, he was very helpful and very good at setting this camera up.

Great service. Using this as a Baby monitor I was worried about video lag. Turned out the D-link had a severe lag when using the d-link app and seemed very buggy so I got the foscam. Lag is very little same as any baby monitor sec and it has pan and tilt which comes in handy. Very happy with this product. Wish I would of gotten this one when my son was born instead of a Baby Monitor that was overpriced just because it was labeled a baby monitor.

Much better picture quality and features for the price. I purchased this camera to mainly be a video monitor for our baby and I'm already thinking about getting a couple more for video surveillance. The setup for this camera was really simple and has some nice features like email alerts and the ability to write to a ftp server. Best purchase of the year so far!

I moved home to Iowa after getting out of the Army to give birth to my son, but his father is still stationed in New York, so with this in the baby's room he can peek in any time he wants. If I had more money, I'd buy more to put up through the house for when baby isn't sleeping in his bed. I've been in IT and dealt with tech companies large and small for over 40 years. The technical staff have the online remote tools and knowledge to fix problems quickly and they do.

Alice was very knowlegable and a pleasure to work with. Can't say I've experienced that before in tech support even having been one myself. When a camera return and replacement was needed Mona in customer support made an extra effort to ensure the camera sent out was working perfectly. Needless to say I'll be buying additional cameras here. The quick install pamphlet is good, but limited. You do need both to install the camera. One thing that they tell you to do is go to [ The problem is that company doesn't provide free domain names.

The other options for domain names given in a list they provide in the software seem to be non-existent. At least I think that's what they're telling me It's confusing and poorly explained. I'm currently connecting with the IP address, and it has worked from a location outside my internal network. I'm going to try using our domain supplied by Microsoft for our Windows Home Server. If it works, I'm set. If not, I'm looking for a place to get one.

I'm not overly interested in purchasing a domain name just for the cameras. Of course if the IP address works consistently I don't have to. Their port forwarding screen and explanation are confusing, but it's port forwarding so what would anyone expect?

I still don't understand why every explanation I find regarding this task confuses it more than necessary. As for the camera itself, I am very impressed. The pan and tilt range is excellent, the resolution is clear at x, the color is crisp, and you can adjust the brightness and contrast. I think it has the ability to save settings based on what you choose, but I haven't tested that yet. Infrared is automatic when the light level gets low and is a clear image.

It will email alerts it can be turned on and off easily and I have set up and tested this feature. It works well within limits, but I can't get it to successfully send a message to my wife's Gmail account even though it sends one to mine. This feature needs a better explanation in the documentation. It attaches six snapshots to the email, and you can get a bunch of emails with constant movement! I know this because I forgot to turn it off once after testing.

The picture quality in the email is excellent. Bought this FW camera for wireless use. Overlooked the numerous online feedback on wifi issues. Found out the hard way that wifi is very problematic.

Initially connected the camera via wifi but after disconnecting it for relocation, the camera refuses to connect via wifi. A very tech savvy person with solid network background, I have tried every single option both on the camera and via multiple routers and my experience is the same as most others online.

After 4 days of trying to connect via wifi, I gave up and ran a wire to the camera instead. The wired connection works and despite my woes with wifi, this camera, once it holds up, is a good buy compared to many other options out there.

Downloaded FoscamPro for iphone and everything works generally well except for an occasional audio distortion. Overall, I'm happy with this camera for the build, features, and functionality at such a low cost despite the wifi issues. If you are looking for a wifi camera, forget this one, otherwise it is a great deal as a wired camera.

One last note, there are many imitation cameras looking the same but mine was from Foscam. I bought previous versions of the Foscam cameras and this is by far the best one I've gotten from them. The IR cutoff filter does make a huge difference in the color quality. The wide angle lens makes it a lot easier to monitor objects from a closer distance and full room views.

Awesome camera update. This Camera has stunning video. Images look just like you were there. I bought three of these and they easily connected to my network. Installation on a Apple Mac was simple. I use these with the iCam app. When any motion is detected, I immediately receive a text message and can view the cameras on my iPhone and the saved data which is sent to my Dropbox.

If you are searching for a reliable network cam look no further. I have tried all the x10 products and 4 other network cams and this is by far the best. It is relativly easy to set up and they just work. The iphone software and computer interface is clean and easy to understand.

I finally did get them viewable on the interent after some help from tech support. It actually was not that hard Ill give you some advice. When they tell you to do "port forwarding", do not use the "range" option So your cam will then be something like this if you are within network. If outside, you need to get your router ip addess then the port number. So something like this. Besides all that tech geek stuff, you will like the cameras.

You can change the scan speed to very slow to surprisingly FAST or anywhere inbetween. You will never feel like "i wish it could go a little farther".

You can also have the ir lights come on automatically when it gets dark or you can control them manually. You'll need the ports when setting up the router.

By default, these are 88, , and Optional Using multiple cameras? Make sure not to use the same settings as the first camera. For example, use 87 instead of Next, click 'Save'. Now, in the menu on the left, select 'IP Configuration'. This prevents the camera from being assigned a new IP address after a router failure for example due to a power outage. In the letter carrier analogy, that means the port will be open for the wrong house number, meaning the letter carrier will be in front of the wrong house.

You won't need to adjust any further settings. Next, press 'Save' in the top right corner. Your camera settings are now correct. Now it's time to set up the router. How do I install my Foscam camera using the web interface? Step 2: set up the router. We'll now set the router up to forward traffic that wants to access the camera the right way. Open your router's user interface. Is this not working? Consult your router's manual.

Navigate to your router's advance settings and search for the 'Port Forwarding' option here. Create a 'custom' service for the camera by selecting this option.

Think of a name for the service. It was more bitching than assistance. So the camera gets 5 stars from me, and I will probably buy at least one more. I hope that helps. Camera works great. The night vision is amazing and this camera blows the competition out of the water for half the price.

They even got me a great deal on a 2nd camera. Don't worry if you don't know how to install it. It comes with a really handy follow along video and I was controlling the camera with my tablet in no time. Thanks Foscam! I recently purchased this camera after scouring the internet to understand the best way to install it. The camera interface is relatively easy to use. The construction is plastic, but I don't feel it is too cheap. The camera view is not bad either although the backdrop of a sunny window overwhelms the camera.

I set it up on an Mac and had a couple of minor issues. If you have Lion OS, then google "install baby cam lion" and click the link to wifibaby website. I did use the install disk to find the camera, then I followed the directions on the website to port forward the camera for remote use. So far so good. I do not have a static IP address, but my current address has not changed in a while. The only negative is that the camera kind of freaks out my wife.

She thinks I am watching her eat breakfast every morning. In fact, she will throw a towel over it because she doesn't like it "staring" at her. The camera website needs to update their install information for Lion users. Other than that, I have no issues. I'm using an iPad with this sucker. Setting up the camera was easy until I got to the part where you unplug the ethernet cable so you can use it wireless. They had a clear enough help guide on their website for the port forwarding setup so that was only a minor hitch, it took 1 min to go through the guide.

CD comes with windows and mac software as well as an app for your phone Look at the features this camera offers and find a "baby monitor" that offers the same See how easy that was? This is my second Foscam, my first is the model immediately preceding this one. Both were quick and easy to set up.

I used Firefox on a Mac to do the setup. It works fine. You don't need to use the CD that comes with the camera at all. Login to your router and bring up the list of DHCP clients. The camera is set up by default to use DHCP, so it will shortly appear in the router's list of clients. Make a note of that IP address, then open a new browser window and browse to the camera's IP. You'll get the camera's built-in web server. Firefox users need to be sure to select server push mode.

Default login is username "admin" with no password. From there you can complete the setup, including changing to a static IP and getting it talking to your wireless.

It took less than five minutes from opening the box to having it up and running on my wireless network. Please don't be put off by negative reviews written by people who lack even the tiny bit of technical knowledge needed to set up and configure this great little camera. Compared to the FIW, the color quality is better.

I setup my camera to work with sensr. This is the first time I bought this foscam product , let me give you the pros and cons. Pros: 1 it has some real beautiful features for a low price like this , I feel much more comfortable at work knowing that with a click of a button I know what's going on in my house 2 The picture quality on the camera is nice and clear and the IR cut filter makes it even better where I don't have to adjust it manually by night in the dark 3 Once the camera is set up it is very user friendly , to pan and tilt it remotely etc.

This camera, and the company itself, clearly has some shortcomings. However, at this price you'll be content, if not ecstatic.

It works well as a security camera and baby monitor. After using it for 1 week I've bought 2 more. The Foscam FW camera is operating quite well. I have 3 FW cameras and have been pleased with their operation and function as well.

They are very stable cameras - images always available whenever I link to them- and easy to set up. For setup, I have found it easier to just plug them in using the Ethernet connection, and then log into my router and find their IP address, and set them up from there.

The only thing you have to remember during setup is that the new camera's port may be set the same as an existing camera. In this case either shut down any existing cameras, or use the FosCam install software and let it find the new camera and port number.

I have the FosCams mounted in our business for security and their range of motion and quality of images- including infrared- has been invaluable. Also the sound quality is good from the camera.

Talking through the cameras to someone is weak, but there. I am replacing older D-Link DCS cameras which are fixed position only provide picture- no sound or two-way communication capabilities. One feature that would be good in my case would be the ability to zoom in on an object. Zoom is not a function of any of the FosCam models I now have. I also use IE and Chrome browsers.
