In Survival mode, you and your partner can earn in-game money to purchase new weapons, upgrades, etc. The more enemies you kill, the more XP you'll earn, which then unlocks even more purchasable options. I put in over 60 hours with my friend in the first two weeks I had the game. Yes, I'm a fanboy. In the main campaign, it's up to you, Master Chief, to stop them. Combat Evolved is the first in the series, and it is still one of the best video games of all time. These two games make up the fantastic conclusion to the story set into motion in Combat Evolved. In both titles, you return as Master Chief to thwart the Covenant, an alliance of hostile aliens. Five-player couch co-op Mario is an easy formula for success. The game can only be played on one console this way as online play is oddly not supported. Not only can players enjoy the entire story campaign of Ghost Recon: Future Soldier with up to three friends, but there's an additional Guerrilla Mode that lets four players fight off waves of enemies, forcing them to move from base to base on multiple maps. Campaign co-op works via system link or online, only one player per console.
Guerrilla supports two players per console system link and online. The long-awaited sequel to Guild Wars of course includes expansive PVP options, but playing with friends as opposed to against is where we have the most fun, even if the more personalized stories aren't co-op friendly. Dungeon raids with friends is the way to go, so long as you know someone before signing up. Guild Wars 2 is an online-only MMO. Forget the always-online, auction-house-motivated Diablo 3 and its weak end game and launch issues, when there's the incredibly fun and high quality Torchlight sequel at a much more affordable price.
The original game was a solo affair but Torchlight 2 adds the much desired co-op for up to six players and takes the mantle as the year's best top-down action RPG. Players can play online or LAN, one per system.
There are some bugs with transporting players closer together, but all of that is blown away by Halo 4's new Spartan Ops ongoing co-op campaign, which adds new content and stories on a weekly basis.
Co-op works with up to two players per console via system link or online. Borderlands was an epic success when it came to co-op shooters and it meshed it successfully with a unique cel-shaded aesthetic and the looter RPG formula.
Although it dropped the competitive co-op feature from World at War, it had a highly developed Zombies mode that took the spin-off mode to the next level.
The original Gears of War blew away everyone when it released toward the beginning of last-generation. It was a killer-app that helped set the Xbox up for a successful generation.
Playing through the campaign now is just as fun as it was then. Pick up where you left off from the original, and if you have a full crew, take a trip down memory lane with one of the OG horde modes. Halo: Reach is the final Halo game to be developed by Bungie and it retains all the polish and fun gameplay from their previous efforts. When BioWare initially revealed that Mass Effect 3 was going to have multiplayer, many were horrified that it would be tacked-on nonsense. If anything though, they nailed the co-op multiplayer, and it was the finer details of the story that needed some more TLC. Portal 2 is one of the greatest games of last-generation that took the original Portal, a surprise hit, to GOTY level.
Rayman Legends is widely regarded as one of the best platformers in many years, and Legends allows up to four other players to join up with you in its colorful and wonderfully put together co-op story mode.

While fans are still waiting to see if Microsoft will ever release Crackdown 3, Crackdown 2 is still around and just as fun as it was years ago, especially when played with a friend.
While Eidos and Square Enix have moved on to a new version of Lara Croft, which by the way has been great, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light was a damn good co-op game that came out after the old brand of Lara was basically dead and buried. Absolutely among the best Xbox co-op games of all time.
